About the Author
Patricia Harrington is a Menkyo Kaiden degree in Koryu Bu jutsu (ancient martial arts), which is a hereditary title equivalent to 9th Dan in modern Budo (martial ways). Shihan Patricia Harrington is the highest ranking female exponent of the Sosuishi-ryu Martial Arts system in the world (a title that she shares with Shihan Betty Huxley).

Patricia Harrington is also the highest Kodokan graded Caucasian female in the world, currently holding a Kodokan 6th Dan. Sensei Harrington has received all of her black belt degrees exclusively from the Kodokan Judo Institute in Japan, after making 26 trips to Japan, since 1964. All of her ranks are ratified  by the International Judo Federation.

Sensei Harrington also holds the highest level (three) of coaching accreditation in judo from the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Sensei Harrington commenced her martial arts career in 1956, and began professionally teaching the martial arts in 1964, for organisations such as Sydney University, Sydney YWCA and YMCA, private schools and colleges, state schools and RSL Youth Clubs.

All of her ranks are ratified by the International Judo Federation. Sensei Huxley has been a group leader for her organisation, and has coordinated twelve group tours of Japan for Sosuishi-ryu students since 1970. She has also done all of the photography for seven books on the Sosuishi-ryu system.
